  • Last Wednesday of the month at 12 noon the CFMEU shop stewards meet at the CFMEU office on Fyans St.

Standing Up for the Burrup

On Tuesday the 26 June 2012 a motion to suspend ‘standing orders’ at the regular Trades and Labour Council Meeting to hear a presentation from Comrade Davey Thomason regarding the ‘Stand Up For The Burrup’ Campaign, was unanimously supported. A motion was carried to support the campaign and apply pressure on the Australian Government.

The above members of the Geelong Trades and Labour Council DEMAND that the Australian Government act now for the preservation of the ancient sacred rock art at Murujuga/the Dampier Archipelago. We DEMAND that this area be nominated for UNESCO World Heritage Listing before it is lost.

We would also like to congratulate the organisers of this campaign and offer our solidarity

Bad for Building Workers Rally

Construction workers are holding a Rally  on Wednesday 4th July 2012,  11 am. starting at Victorian Trades Hall Council, Melbourne, This Rally is against Ballieu's establishment of the the new construction code aginst the union movement
A Geelong Bus will be leaving the CFMEU Office 78 Fyans St at 9.00 sharp  and then contiuning to Geelong Trades Hall for 9.15 am. for departure.

If you are able to attend please contact your organiser or Geelong Trades Hall to book a seat on the bus.

Teachers Strike

Geelong and regional Teachers assembled at Geelong Trades Hall today to catch buses  (7 July) to the rally at Hisense Arena. The teachers were angry with the Victorian Government and the lack of respect being shown. One teacher said that not only was the 2.5% pay rise was an insult, the performance based pay rises proposed were destructive to the 'team' approach necessary for a healthy educational environment. "Ted just has no idea and does not understand us or education".

TAFE RALLY - THURS 31 MAY

TAFE Rally Thursday 31 May at Johnstones Park at 12.15. Come along and support the Gordon, the AEU and the NTEU and the people of Geelong. These cuts are unacceptable and we need to give the Victorian Government the message loud and clear. We will not accept these cuts. Tell your friends, and comrades. Bring along flags and banners. Vale Frank Self

Frank Self, a former Trades Hall President and Industrial Organiser with the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, passed away on Sunday.

It is with sadness and sympathy to Frank's family an hearing of the passing of one of our best trade unionist. Frank was a great supporter of the working class and right to the end he was still trying to recruit union members.

Frank's funeral will be:
1.00pm Tuesday 26 July
Mt Duneed Crematorium

Followed by snacks at the Grovedale Hotel at 2.00pm
